History of the City of Ohrid
The famous history of the city of Ohrid and its environment begins as early as the prehistoric period, which is confirmed by archaeological finds. The city also possesses a rich antique history, widely known by the golden burial masks from Trebenishte, the theatre etc. Ohrid is also famous for the priceless Early Christian mosaics, but our focus will be pointed to its medieval history.

History of the Ohrid's Archbishopric
As early as the arrival of the holy apostle Paul and his missionary activity in Macedonia, Christianity became an integral part of the history of this place. The ecclesiastical institutions were established in the very beginnings of the institutionalization of the Christian faith, while their leaders – the bishops, actively participated in the ecumenical councils at which the Christian dogma was widely discussed throughout the course of several centuries.
